Elizabeth is the Chief Executive of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust (HSAT), a Multi–Academy Trust currently comprising three special schools in Stockton: Abbey Hill Academy & Abbey Hill Sixth Form, Green Gates Academy, and Westlands Academy and Residential.
Qualified as both a secondary and primary teacher, Elizabeth then moved into special education – gaining a range of postgraduate qualifications, completed by a Masters in Education. She was also in the first group of educationalists in Scotland to gain the Scottish Qualification in Headship (SQH).
With experience of headship in 3 special schools in both the state and independent sector, Elizabeth then moved to Stockton – becoming Executive Head of what was then Stockton Borough First Federation. Her breadth and depth as an educationalist is further evidenced by her substantial past experience as a former Associate Assessor with HMIe (Scotland’s equivalent of Ofsted) and also as a former senior education officer with responsible for the delivery of services for SEN within a local authority education directorate.
Elizabeth brings an unrivalled ability to support collaborative and collegiate working across HSAT’s academies and the wider professional community – with professional learning and CPD strategies as particular strengths. In addition, Elizabeth is also personally able to share valuable approaches to developing leadership, ensuring effective self-evaluation as well as implementing robust approaches to quality assurance.
